Continuum Services Helps Hantz Woodlands to Plant More Trees in Detroit

Hantz WoodlandsOn May 9 Continuum Services put on their work boots grabbed their shovels and headed out to Detroit’s east side to plant trees detroitparticipate in the second annual volunteer tree planting hosted by Hantz Woodlands. Hundreds of volunteers, businesses, neighborhood groups and other organizations came out to help turn these blight vacant lots into mowed fields and planned forests.

Hantz Woodlands, an outgrowth of Hantz Farms, purchased acres and acres of vacant land from the city and cleared the lots of debris, overgrowth, trash, tires and rotting homes and are now planting trees with volunteer’s help.

Building on the success of last year’s Planting Day, 5,000 holes were pre-dug and prepared for the planting of 4-6 foot tulip popular trees. Narrated bus tours, a  DJ, live performances from Mr. B… a boogie-woogie piano player who carts his 350 pound piano from site to site on a bicycle built for two and face painting were just some of the activities to enjoy while planting the trees.

Continuum was happy not only to donate their time, but to donate needed equipment to get the job done such as shovels and buckets. We look forward to participating in the up coming years and help replace these vacant lots with beauty!continuum plant trees
