Selecting Filters for Filter Replacement
June 23, 2021

How Often Should You Change Your HVAC Filter?

Changing your building’s HVAC filter might seem like a small detail, but it’s very important. Commercial HVAC filters trap particulates like dust, dirt, pollen, mold, lint, metal, plaster or wood particles, hair, bacteria and microorganisms so you don’t breathe them into your lungs. With any kind of building renovations, filters will need to be changed more often.

Commercial Indoor Environments

At a minimum, commercial HVAC filters should be cleaned or replaced quarterly, however, check your filters monthly to see if they are “loaded” with particulates. Create a quarterly maintenance plan in your calendar as a reminder.

Benefits

Replacing filters regularly will extend the life of your unit and save you money in the long run, as clogged filters reduce airflow and eventually equipment failure.

Additionally, New / Cleaned Filters:

  • Provide a healthy indoor air quality
  • Increase equipment efficiency
  • Increase longevity of your HVAC system
  • Lower repair frequency and emergencies
  • Offer better temperature control
  • Prevent harmful pollutants from entering your lungs
  • Prevent illness, absenteeism, and low productivity

Always Hire a Professional

We at Continuum Services, can help you choose the correct type of filter for your needs. Filters have MERV ratings that range from MERV 7 to a MERV 16.  The greater the MERV, the better the filtration. A HEPA filter is the best filter one can purchase for the best protection. Seek selection advice from a professional, as higher MERV ratings can also restrict airflow and cause equipment harm.
