The Facility Hero: Day Porters

What is a Day Porter

Day porters are often the heroes of a facility. These valued team members clean, but they also help support the image of your facility and ensure that customers, employees and tenants are satisfied.

Interior and exterior walkways continually accumulate trash, debris, and snow; consequently requiring regular cleaning, snow removal, and salting. This never-ending activity is key in maintaining a positive appearance throughout the exterior and interior of the building. In addition, regular cleaning maximizes safety for employees, clients, and other visitors.

Common areas and lobbies need attention especially during the winter months. Day porters are there to wipe up sludge and messes as soon as they happen and mop floors during slow times of the day. They also dry wet floors immediately and vacuum rugs and carpets several times per day to clean up salt and dirt.

Other Duties of Day Porters

  • Keep restrooms clean and supplies stocked.
  • Clean and prepare kitchen, cafeteria, break and conference rooms.
  • Respond to spills and other cleaning emergencies.
  • Keeping glass doors, windows, and fixtures free of smudges and fingerprints.
  • Keeping elevator doors, buttons, and floors clean and looking good.
