On May 7 Continuum Services put on their work boots, grabbed their shovels and headed out to Detroit’s east side to participate in the third annual volunteer tree planting hosted by Hantz Foundation. Hundreds of volunteers, businesses, neighborhood groups and other organizations came out to help turn these blight vacant lots into mowed fields and planned forests.
The Hantz Story
Hantz Woodlands, an outgrowth of Hantz Farms, purchased acres and acres of vacant land from the city and cleared the lots of debris, overgrowth, trash, tires and rotting homes and are now planting trees with volunteer’s help.
The Accomplishment!
Building on the success of last year’s Planting Day, the group pre-dug 3,500 holes to prepare for the planting of four to six-foot Tulip Popular trees. Narrated bus tours, a DJ, hot dogs, face painting, and a 5K run were just some of the activities to enjoy while planting the trees.
Continuum Participation
Continuum happily donated both their time and needed equipment to get the job done as well. We look forward to participating in the upcoming years and help replace these vacant lots with beauty!
