On May 9 Continuum Services put on their work boots grabbed their shovels and headed out to Detroit’s east side to 
participate in the second annual volunteer tree planting hosted by Hantz Woodlands. Hundreds of volunteers, businesses, neighborhood groups and other organizations came out to help turn these blight vacant lots into mowed fields and planned forests.
Initially, Hantz Woodlands purchased numerous vacant lots from the city, aiming to transform neglected spaces into vibrant green areas. Afterward, they cleared the land of debris, overgrowth, trash, tires, and dilapidated homes to prepare for revitalization. Subsequently, with the help of dedicated volunteers, they began planting trees to restore beauty and promote environmental sustainability in the neighborhood.
Building on last year’s success, 5,000 holes were pre-dug for planting 4–6 foot tulip poplar trees.
Meanwhile, narrated bus tours offered attendees a scenic view of the revitalized lots and ongoing tree planting efforts. In addition, a DJ and live performances by Mr. B entertained guests with upbeat music and boogie-woogie piano tunes.
Furthermore, Mr. B transported his 350-pound piano on a bicycle built for two, adding charm and excitement to the event. To enhance the experience, face painting and other fun activities were available for volunteers and families throughout the day.
Continuum was happy not only to donate their time, but to donate needed equipment to get the job done such as shovels and buckets. We look forward to participating in the up coming years and help replace these vacant lots with beauty!
